Getting to know your hourly input tonnages by waste stream and peak hours will help you to choose the right size of compactor.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW93434273 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\t<div id=\"heading-block_74fe0c4a64e3536fbdd6f3f7b987db28\" class=\"block block--heading\">\n\t\t<h4 ><span class=\"black\">Why size matters?<\/span> <span class=\"\"><\/span><\/h4>\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<div id=\"text-area-block_566acc20088d914040116a0c7d39add5\" class=\"block block--text-area \">\n\t\t\t<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The operating weight determines how much waste a compactor can process and compact. The heavier the operating weight of a compactor is, the more waste it can compact in one pass, thus compacting more waste per hour. If the compactor is too small, it can\u2019t process incoming waste quickly enough, resulting in stoppages or clogging of the waste input. For every minute that incoming waste waits to be unloaded, revenue is lost.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Heavier\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">landfill\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">compactors cost more to purchase and operate. For example, a\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW230255151 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW230255151 BCX0\">landfill\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW230255151 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW230255151 BCX0\">compactor with an operating weight of 32 tons should be used to compact 200\u2013650 tons of waste per day. This is called a theoretical capacity because to achieve the maximum number of compacted tons, the waste needs to come in at a steady and optimal rate and be ready to be compacted without any additional work phases such as spreading it.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW230255151 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW147244295 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW147244295 BCX0\">Operating a\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW147244295 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW147244295 BCX0\">landfill\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW147244295 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW147244295 BCX0\">compactor at the upper limits of its capacity is not optimal. A 32-ton compactor can compact 20\u201365 tons of waste per hour. It can handle 65\u201385 tons per hour when needed, but continuous operation at the upper limit increases wear and shortens the service periods. If the site can be organized in a way that the excess waste can be dumped and spread ready for later compaction, there is no problem.
